Residents who choose the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, NH for skilled nursing, short stay rehab, dementia services or long-term care can avail themselves of a host of enjoyable activities, an outstanding on-site rehabilitation and wellness program, several different dining options, and an array of convenient medical and personal services.

A Room With a View

For residents accessing Edgewood’s skilled rehabilitative services or the facility’s long term care or dementia care programs, the goal is the same - we want residents to feel comfortable in their surroundings and confident in their care.

Private and semi-private rooms and available and can be personalized with a favorite chair or dresser from home, artwork, and personal keepsakes.

Rooms overlook a variety of outdoor features including woodlands, courtyards and gardens of perennial flowers.

On-Site Services

Specialized services are offered at Edgewood and are conveniently located right in the building.

The dentist and hygienist are on-site four times each month, providing comprehensive dental care for all of Edgewood’s residents. The podiatrist is available to make a house call whenever the need arises.

Edgewood’s beauty, barber, and spa services are priced well below industry standards and are available several times each week.

Medical Director Dr. Sarah MacDuffie's team of physicians and nurse practitioners are at the facility at least 5 days a week, seeing residents and checking in with families.

With services that are personal, professional and convenient; we know a stay at Edgewood means taking care of yourself couldn’t be easier.

Rehab and Fitness Gym

Whether seeking a modern facility for cardiac or orthopedic rehab or just wanting to stay in shape, Edgewood’s new rehab gym is the place to be.

The rehab team provides physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services as well as strengthening workouts and cardio programs using the bike, treadmill and Wii fit program.

Restorative Care and Wellness

Other members of Edgewood’s rehabilitation team specialize in restorative care and work with residents to maximize mobility, strength, and flexibility.

On-site PT, OT, and speech are available for residents requiring more specialized skilled rehab services. In addition, many residents take advantage of Edgewood’s unique wellness program.

Rehab staff members offer hands-on healing with Reiki, paraffin treatments, chi, and massage. These services are offered free of charge to residents, staff, and family members.

Dining at Edgewood

When it comes to dining, exercising choice is important.

A flexible daily meal schedule is offered at Edgewood, allowing residents and guests to eat what they want, when they want and in the environment of their choosing. Best of all, visitors are always welcome to dine with a resident, free of charge.

Edgewood’s dining team maintains the highest standards of traditional home cooking, providing a choice of healthy meals and tempting snacks that are served from satellite kitchens located in each of Edgewood’s three neighborhoods.

Sample menus show the range of offerings residents enjoy in the main dining room, in cozy sunrooms, outdoors on the deck and porches, or privately with room service.

Specific food preferences are honored and physicians’ diet orders are handled competently and accurately. In addition, Edgewood’s chefs are available to cater private functions.

Lobster with Family

One of the ways Edgewood is different from other facilities is our policy on family meals and celebrations.

Family members are encouraged to eat with the residents whenever they like, free of charge. In addition, residents host special holiday meals in their own home, here at Edgewood. These events allow loved ones to easily gather with residents and to continue important family traditions.

Families enjoy buffets and feasts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. In addition, we host a popular New England Lobster Bake late each summer.

As with all of Edgewood’s events, there is no charge for these celebrations.

Sightseeing and Travel

Residents travel often each week on Edgewood’s wheelchair accessible bus to visit cultural events, local restaurants, and shopping centers. People particularly enjoy the scenic rides along New Hampshire’s spectacular coastline…with essential stops for ice cream along the way.

Recreation at Edgewood

Edgewood’s award-winning recreation program provides countless opportunities for socialization, learning, and enjoyment.

A large and energetic staff provides an ever-changing array of activities seven days a week-everything from social events to sports, pet therapy to poetry writing.

In keeping with Edgewood’s family-friendly philosophy, residents’ loved ones are always welcome at any Edgewood event.

For those looking to catch the big game or a favorite classic film with a group, flat screen televisions are located in the living room and on the sun porches.

Sunshine and Laughter

Intergenerational activities are a hallmark of The Edgewood Centre. The residents host regular community events, inviting area schoolchildren in for seasonal activities and family fun.

In the fall, the residents and kids roast marshmallows over the campfire and take hayrides around the pond. Each spring, they hunt for Easter eggs on the lawn and plant flowers for Earth Day.

The Edgewood Early Learning Center provides care for children age six weeks to six years. The babies and children visit with the residents throughout the week and join them for exercise groups, craft activities, and parties.

The sound of children laughing on the playground wafts in from the porch. It’s one more way Edgewood feels like one big family - and a happy one at that.
